Wherever you are in Australia right now, we hope you are keeping well. Renewed lockdown in parts of Victoria, increasing COVID-19 case numbers also in NSW, closed borders between states, face masks being worn more prominently in our streets and shops – these are all stark reminders that the pandemic is not over. We must continue to be vigilant for our own health and that of our communities. And we need to be mindful not only of the economic fallout, but also the mental health impacts.

Community philanthropy is an integral part of Australia’s response to the public health crisis and the bushfire crisis that came before it.

Australia’s philanthropy leaders are increasingly cognisant of the importance of place-based, connected and community-led approaches to local resilience and recovery. The community foundation sector really appreciates the support it is receiving, including the Ecstra Foundation’s pilot Community Foundations grant round investing in 10 communities around the country and the capacity-building funding awarded to ACP as the sector peak body from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, Perpetual and the Ecstra Foundation. Sincere thanks to all our supporters for your help in strengthening Australia’s Community Foundations.

To raise awareness about the importance and impact of community philanthropy, a new Community Philanthropy Award has been established as part of the Australian Philanthropy Awards 2020. This is a prime opportunity to showcase your work and celebrate the impact you are creating in your local community. More information about eligibility and how to nominate is included below. We look forward to your nominations!
