This week (11-17 October) is National Carers Week. This initiative of Carers Australia aims to raise awareness about the 2.65 million people in our communities who provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who is elderly, disabled or has a health condition. With around 10% of the Australian population caring for someone close to them, it is highly likely that every one of us knows a carer, and that some of us are carers.

More people than ever have needed care this year. And under pandemic conditions, the job of caring has become more difficult. So let’s recognise, celebrate and support carers. Community philanthropy is ideally placed to do this in our communities.

Our upcoming webinar series includes a session on “Helping the helpers”, a topic related to caring. More information on this and the other sessions is included below.

The series kicks off this Wednesday at noon (AEDT) when we will explore how community foundations can leverage GivingTuesday to benefit their communities. Our presenters Alex McMillan and Andrew Eales and I look forward to your company then.
